the proposed 'new carisbrooke stadium' highlights an issue that needs debate. if and when it is built, a huge amount of the cost will be borne by the ratepayers and then when it is complete, we will all have to pay a substantial sum to take the family along to whatever event is on. same with other examples of community projects already with us or to happen in the future. why don't dcc ratepayers (as main shareholders) receive a discount /passcards for these venues.it will just be too expensive otherwise to have family days out at the attractions we have paid to have built. mcstew
Respond Share This Posted 28 Sep 2007 (565 Views)While I can definitely side with you on the cost of taking a family outing, it has to be remembered that if our city forefathers had turned down projects because of the cost, what sort of city would we have, and how many people would be living here now if we didn't have the great amenities that we do enjoy?

I think the benefits will outway the cost to ratepayers and users. Dunedin lags behind the rest of the country to a large degree, as far as keeping up with the times. The city could do with as much development as possable, although we might not all agree. Just a pity so much money is being spent on eveluating the project, just do it!!!. THINK BIG.

If it was a worthwhile project that would make money ,the moneyed men of this and other towns would be lining up to get their share of it. Already the project is expected to double in price . To charge the excessive taxes that this council charges us and then to squander the money on whims and desires to build monuments is disgraceful and now we must suffer the results of a council who has really lost its way This council is already running large debt as they will not use the money from the sale of Waipori . What is the core business of a City Council ???Surely not to rob the ordinary ratepayer to build things for tourists that spend little money in this town .You be the judge
